550% Organic Traffic Growth in One Quarter for a Glendale Tennis Academy
30-15 Tennis Academy case study: local SEO and a content pipeline took organic sessions from 127 to 825 and impressions from 712 to 4,411 in one quarter.
30-15 Tennis Academy
A premier tennis academy in Glendale, California, coaching players from age 3 through adult across Glendale and Burbank, with families driving in weekly from La Crescenta-Montrose, La Canada Flintridge, Eagle Rock, Verdugo Hills, Atwater Village, and west Pasadena. The academy runs a USTA-aligned Red to Orange to Green to Yellow ball progression rather than drop-in lessons, with biweekly written feedback and the same certified coaches on court every week. Co-founded by head coaches Mher, RSPA certified and a former Australian Open Academy player with over ten years coaching, and Oleg, RSPA certified with a B.S. in Sports Psychology, 25 years playing and 13 years coaching. Memberships run from $390 per month for two weekly lessons on the beginner tracks up to $955 per month for four weekly lessons on the intermediate and advanced track, with drop-in sessions from $50. The commercial model turns on a free first class with no card required. Rated 5.0 out of 5 on Google.

The Challenge
Every enrolment starts with a free trial booking, and every free trial booking starts with a parent in Glendale or Burbank searching for tennis lessons. That funnel was closed. Google Search Console recorded 712 impressions and 99 clicks across the entire prior quarter, which in a metro area the size of the San Fernando Valley is functionally invisible. The academy was competing against two things it could not beat on price: free park and recreation programmes, and generic group lessons at half the rate. Its actual advantages, a structured USTA pathway, coaching continuity, written progress tracking, and a competitive tournament track, are exactly the things a parent only discovers after landing on the site. The problem was never the offer. It was that nobody was arriving to see it.

The Strategy
Local search foundation
Built out Google Business Profile and local entity consistency so the Glendale facility resolved correctly for local pack and map intent, which is where the majority of "tennis lessons near me" demand actually lands.
Service area page architecture
Created dedicated coverage for the primary service area (Glendale, Burbank) and the extended catchment (La Crescenta, La Canada Flintridge, Eagle Rock, Pasadena), so drive-time searches from surrounding neighbourhoods had a page written for them rather than a generic homepage.
Ball-colour pathway content
The Red, Orange, Green, and Yellow ball system is what parents actually search when they are comparing programmes. Built explanatory content around each stage and age band, then routed each to the matching membership track.
Blog to video pipeline
Converted published content into narrated video, published to YouTube with SEO-optimised titles, descriptions, tags, and captions, creating a second discovery surface for a business where parents research visually before booking.
Free-trial conversion path
Every content entry point was routed to the free trial booking form, which is the single commercial action that matters for this business. Cost, age, and equipment questions were answered on-page so the FAQ objections were cleared before the form.
Comparison and objection content
Built out the park and recreation versus generic lesson versus structured academy comparison, plus practical FAQ content on lesson cost, training frequency, racket requirements, and USTA tournament pathways.
The "before" numbers looked better than they were, and the "after" numbers are still small.
Average position moved from 4.7 to 6.2 and click-through rate from 13.9% to 8.5%, which reads like a decline. It is not. On a base of 712 impressions, those prior figures were a handful of branded searches by people who already knew the academy, ranking first because nothing else was competing. Real keyword coverage always dilutes those vanity averages. The honest framing is that the academy went from ranking on almost nothing to ranking across a genuine local keyword set at position 6.2 with an 8.5% click-through rate, which is strong for local service search. The second caveat matters more: 375 clicks in a quarter is a small absolute number. Anyone benchmarking this against a national brand will say so, and they will be right. This is a local market share story, not a volume story, and it should be sold as one.
