About The Client

Threadline Directory

A Los Angeles based clothing brand directory platform indexing thousands of independent US clothing brands across categories, styles, and price bands, monetised through affiliate and paid brand placement. Strong catalogue depth, weak non-brand organic surface for the style + brand queries shoppers ran.

The Challenge

The site had one flat brand-alphabet directory, no style or occasion hubs, no brand-comparison pages, and no supporting content for the discovery queries that lead shoppers into a brand page.

Our Approach

The Strategy

STEP 01

Mapped the style + occasion + price-band matrix

Built a matrix crossing every style (workwear, streetwear, tailoring, minimalist) with occasions (wedding guest, everyday, resort, office) and price bands, prioritised by search demand and affiliate revenue per brand.

STEP 02

Shipped style + occasion hubs

Built dedicated hub pages per combination surfacing the top brands with real editorial context, transparent price ranges, and affiliate-tracked outbound links per brand card.

STEP 03

Rebuilt brand pages as real editorial

Replaced the thin brand-alphabet cards with real editorial brand pages covering history, categories, price band, and comparable alternatives, each internally linked into the relevant style hubs.

STEP 04

Tightened the outbound + affiliate flow

Consolidated affiliate networks per brand, added persistent 'shop this brand' modules to every hub and brand page, and set up per-brand tracking to prove which hubs drove real affiliate revenue.

Affiliate disclosure changes triggered a manual review.

Rolling out new outbound affiliate links across thousands of pages briefly tripped a review because disclosure copy was inconsistent per hub. I standardised disclosure language site-wide, added a canonical /affiliate-disclosure page linked from every outbound module, and the review closed cleanly inside three weeks.

The old directory was a phonebook. It is now a real discovery surface, and the brands we index actually see traffic from us that converts.
