SEO for a Home Gardening Ecommerce Brand
Home gardening ecommerce SEO case study: rebuilt a Shopify home gardening brand around plant + USDA climate-zone intent to grow organic revenue and conversion rate.
Rootcart Garden Co.
A Raleigh based home gardening brand on Shopify selling live plants, seeds, tools, and grow kits nationally. Strong catalogue and horticulture team, weak organic surface for the plant + climate-zone queries their buyers ran.

The Challenge
The site had flat category pages, no per-plant care content, no climate-zone filtering, and product pages that missed the specific 'grows in USDA zone X' context every serious buyer wants.
Rootcart Garden Co.
Great catalogue, invisible for the plant + climate-zone queries buyers actually searched.
The Strategy
Rebuilt collections around plant type + climate zone
Consolidated the flat catalogue into proper plant-type collections (indoor tropicals, edible perennials, native pollinators) crossed with USDA zone filters so every buyer landed on a page tuned to what actually grows for them.
Shipped per-plant care pages
Built dedicated care pages per plant with real horticulture-team-written care notes, watering schedules, USDA zone compatibility, and a persistent 'add this plant to cart' widget in-line.
Cleaned up product schema and inventory
Added Product + Offer schema to every SKU, wired live inventory into rendering so seasonally unavailable plants dropped out cleanly, and added shipping-restriction schema per state.
Tightened the first-order + kit funnel
Rebuilt the collection template around a persistent 'starter kit' upsell for first-time buyers and cut the checkout to a single screen with a climate-zone based delivery estimate above the fold.

Live-plant shipping restrictions almost broke the collection pages.
Several states restrict interstate shipment of live plants, and the collection pages briefly ranked for shoppers who could not legally receive the plant. I built a zip-code aware collection filter that hid restricted items per shopper, added a clear 'ships to your state' badge per product card, and organic conversion rate lifted from 2.2% to 3.1% inside seven weeks.
Paid always felt like renting attention. Search finally feels like a channel we own, and it holds up in the shoulder seasons.
