The Challenge
Addiction treatment is one of the most saturated and most expensive verticals in search. The organic first page for high-intent terms is dominated by national treatment networks, insurance aggregators, and directory sites that have been building authority for fifteen years. iRely had genuine differentiators that were not reaching search: a two-estate private setting, ASAM 3.5 licensure, same-day admissions, a founding team in recovery themselves, and national press coverage from January 2026 when former NBA champion Lamar Odom completed a 30-day programme at the facility, picked up by TMZ, People, Page Six, Yahoo Sports, and PopCulture. That coverage created a brand-awareness spike, but a spike is not a pipeline. The problem was converting a moment of attention into durable, compounding organic demand across the full treatment keyword set: substance-specific pages, dual-diagnosis pages, insurance and cost queries, and Los Angeles local intent.
iRely Recovery
A 2023 boutique facility with eleven beds, competing for the most expensive keywords in American healthcare against national chains with eight-figure media budgets.
The Strategy
High-frequency clinical content programme
Built a sustained publishing cadence across the treatment taxonomy rather than a handful of service pages. Substance-specific pages (opioid, alcohol, benzodiazepine, fentanyl, kratom, cocaine, meth, cannabis), behavioural addiction pages (gambling, gaming, internet use), and dual-diagnosis pages (anxiety, depression, PTSD, bipolar) each got dedicated treatment, so the site could compete on the long tail rather than fighting head terms it could not win.
Blog to video pipeline
Converted published articles into narrated whiteboard video and published to YouTube with full SEO treatment on titles, descriptions, tags, and captions. This created a second discovery surface and a set of embeddable assets that strengthened the source pages.
LinkedIn clinician-facing article programme
Selected the highest-traffic priority keywords not yet served by long-form and published clinician-focused articles to the company page, each carrying one target-keyword link back to the corresponding treatment page. Referral and brand-entity signals both benefited.
Insurance and cost query capture
Verification, coverage, and cost queries are where families actually start. Built out the insurance options architecture so PPO-specific and cost-specific searches had a page to land on with a verification path attached, rather than bouncing to an aggregator.
Local and facility entity work
Structured the two-estate Sherwood Forest location, the DHCS licence, and the accreditation set as consistent entity data so Los Angeles local intent resolved to iRely rather than to regional directories.
Press coverage converted into durable authority
The January 2026 national coverage was treated as a link and entity asset rather than a one-week traffic event, with the "In The News" architecture built to hold and compound the credibility signal.
Tripling impressions cost me average position and click-through rate.
Impressions went from 137,337 to 444,249, but average position slipped from 7.6 to 8.9 and click-through rate fell from 0.66% to 0.43%. That is the arithmetic of widening a footprint: the new impressions came largely from broader, more informational queries where the site ranks lower and converts worse than it did on its original narrow keyword set. Bounce rate also rose from 55.5% to 61% as the audience mix shifted from high-intent to research-stage. Clicks still doubled, so the trade was worth making, but anyone reading the position and CTR lines in isolation would conclude the opposite. The head terms, "rehab near me" and "drug rehab Los Angeles", remain owned by national networks and directory aggregators. Displacing them was never the plan. The plan was to own the substance-specific and dual-diagnosis layer underneath them, where the searcher is closer to a decision and the competition is thinner.
