About The Client

Vowline Marketplace

A Denver based national wedding vendor marketplace built on Ruby on Rails, connecting couples to photographers, venues, florists, and planners across the top 60 US metros. Strong vendor supply, weak national organic surface for the city + category queries couples ran.

The Challenge

The site had generic vendor listing pages, no city-scoped category hubs, weak internal linking between city and category, and no supporting content for the venue-shortlist queries that convert.

Full supply-side liquidity, invisible for the city + vendor-category queries couples ran daily.

Our Approach

The Strategy

STEP 01

Mapped the city x category matrix

Built a matrix of every US metro crossed with every vendor category (photographers, venues, florists, planners, DJs, videographers) and prioritised by search demand, vendor liquidity, and average deal size.

STEP 02

Shipped programmatic city + category hubs

Rebuilt the Rails template so each city x category combination got a real page with the top 20 vendors, transparent price bands, real reviews, and a booking enquiry pinned above the fold.

STEP 03

Rebuilt the internal link graph

Consolidated the old scattered vendor archive, added canonical rules for near-duplicate hubs, and linked city + category pages into their parent city and category pages so authority actually flowed.

STEP 04

Added shortlist + comparison tooling

Shipped a real 'save + compare' workflow that let couples shortlist vendors across categories per city, and wired that workflow into the enquiry form so vendors got a warmer lead.

The first programmatic wave triggered a thin-content flag.

Launching every metro at once meant a lot of low-liquidity city + category pages went live with fewer than five real vendors, and Google flagged them as thin. I no-indexed cities without real supply, added editorial city guides written by local planners, and rankings recovered wave by wave.

Before, we relied on paid to feed the marketplace. Search is now the cheapest, highest-intent source of couples we have, and it compounds every month.
